On April 22, 1975 the Housing Authority of the City of
Nacogdoches, TX was
created by resolution of the City Commission of Nacogdoches. The
City Commission appoints a five member Housing Authority Board of Commissioners
who serve voluntarily as the policy making body for our organization. Once
appointed, these Board members serve two year terms and function autonomously
from the City Commission.
In February 1976, the Nacogdoches Housing
Authority received its first contract with the U.S. Department of Housing & Urban
Development to provide rental assistance to 50 low-income families. We are now assisting
over 950 families
throughout Nacogdoches County with rental assistance, and own 76 public housing
dwelling units.
Our main purpose is to provide safe, decent, and sanitary
housing for low-income families throughout Nacogdoches County. While providing
this service we also are working toward providing home ownership opportunities
and self-sufficiency for these families.
We also work to promote drug abuse elimination and
prevention and healthy lifestyles for our participants.
It is our intention to continue
providing excellent service in our programs at a
minimum of expense.
